Over the years I've read lots of productivity books, and the related literature. 4. May 2, 2017. Good review, even though I love this book, it's good to see who is it for, and who it might not be useful for. That's about 1/3 of the book. This is where youâll do deep work. I started readingâactually, studying is a better termâduring the last week of December 2017, and first week of January 2018. In short, deep work is like a super power in our increasingly competitive twenty-first century economy. I read this after his first book “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” and “Deep Work” helped to build on the lessons in the first book. This book is going to drastically help me reach the optimum level of productivity I've been seeking. If you do one thing to improve your life this year, subscribe to Dr. Newport's blog and start reading his books. File under - Shallow writing that should have been a blogpost at best. College students should embrace Deep Work! Most people are going to buy into this concept easily enough, but Cal did a nice job further arguing it with some examples, various research, and so on...but this book also felt like a very good 100-page book that was stretched into a mediocre 260-page book. TL DR: It has some good actionable steps, but with a lot of fluff about being more counter-culture and revolutionary than it is or needs to have.
