That’s the reason, she said, that sugar daddies are particularly interested in college students. A monthly allowance given to sugar babies by sugar daddies can help relieve students’ significant college costs. Allowances typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 a month, with the average sugar baby making $3,000.

But this common stereotype oversimplifies the particular relationships at hand. Drawing the line between transaction and romance can be difficult.

Since I was still a bit hesitant about how far I’d be willing to take my experiment, I signed up using the pseudonym Annabelle Walker. The site, which launched in 2006, has about 420,000 members, of which roughly one-third are sugar daddies and two-thirds are sugar babies (sugar mommies account for less than one percent).

    Discuss, talk, and meet

Approximately 3 million college students in the United States are registered on SeekingArrangement, making up about 37 percent of the more than 8 million sugar baby users. When I started dating through Seeking Arrangement, I thought I was someone who could enter into a relationship for financial reasons and not feel cheapened by it. Ultimately, I realized that I’m not that progressive, or that, for whatever reason, being financially independent means something to me. Even without the safety net of a sugar daddy, I took a risk and quit my day job—a decision that rendered me unemployed, uninsured, and uncertain about where the money for next month’s rent would come from. The site he was referring to was Seeking Arrangement, an online network that pairs people possessing resources (“sugar daddies” and “sugar mommies”) with those, usually much younger, seeking them (“sugar babies”).

The average student sugar baby earns $3,000 each month, according to a SeekingArrangement press release. While Anna is earning $12,000 monthly, another sugar baby currently enrolled at UNC was paid $500 every two weeks. Ellie — her sugar baby name — would fly up to New York every two or three weeks to spend time with her sugar daddy. DTH Photo Illustration. A 2019 study released by SeekingArrangement, a website that connects Sugar Daddies and Sugar Babies, claimed 514 UNC students were using its services.

I had become a member a few weeks earlier, partly as a social experiment and partly out of genuine desperation. I was frustrated with my job, which offered little upward mobility, and was thinking about quitting it to pursue my goal of becoming a full-time freelance writer. Holding me back were my lack of savings and my fear of sacrificing a regular paycheck. If I had a hefty allowance from a generous benefactor, though, I figured that I could take the leap comfortably. In an interview with The Times, Brandon Wade, the founder of SeekingArrangement, said his dating platform, which he has rebranded as Seeking, is not a vehicle for prostitution.

    • It is good that sugar dating websites make you pay for their services because the free sources attract lots of fraudsters, while on the specialised paid web sites it is harder to scam.
    • The site he was referring to was Seeking Arrangement, an online network that pairs people possessing resources (“sugar daddies” and “sugar mommies”) with those, usually much younger, seeking them (“sugar babies”).
    • She’s able to stay on top of her bills and ensure the men requesting her time will have it.
    • So, sugar mommies and daddies are to exercise reasonable caution when they communicate and, especially if they are asked to send the money directly — before even the two of you get a chance to meet.
    • Seeking Arrangement erases the daddy as a factor and focuses instead on what he can give; in turn, it erases the baby’s work and focuses instead on what she gains as a student at Sugar Baby University.
    • During the 1910s and 1920s, some young women who worked at minimum-wage jobs during the day would supplement their meager paychecks by meeting up with male suitors at night.

Is there a Seeking Arrangement app?

Three-month of premium membership cost $44.85, which reduces the monthly cost to $14.95. And finally, if you pay for a six-month subscription, one month will only cost you $9.95. So, we can safely state that SeekingArrangement services cost less than average in the market.

Another problem is that the daddies don’t always see sugaring as work. In an episode of the podcast “Death, Sex and Money,” a woman who works as a sugar baby explains that while she self-identifies as a sex worker, “it’s more so the men that [she meets] who have a problem with that language.” Because they are choosing to pay for dates and sex using Seeking Arrangement rather than an escort service or what is traditionally labelled prostitution, many daddies have an aversion to labels that classify sex as work.

I need more of an emotional connection with someone, even though it might sound weird in that environment. The interactions are legal because the terms fall within a gray area where women are compensated with gifts (often cash) for their time — not for sex, which may or may not result following an introduction. The women started Googling. They quickly found that the man had been an employee of City Hall and was now a student in a New York University program that is in Brooklyn, near the Jay Street-MetroTech subway stop. He’s married with children.

How long does it take for my profile to be approved? Please be patient, photos and profiles enter the approval process in the order they were received. This usually takes 24-48 hours, however if the site is experiencing a high volume, this process may take longer.

But for many sugar babies, money can be a way of quantifying their worth, seeing who out there finds them attractive — and just how much. Richard, one of Brian’s sugar daddies, is married to a man who won’t have sex with him anymore. A Yale graduate from the class of 1977, Richard has achieved success in standard terms.
