Michael Savage is the Mayor of Halifax, Canada, and President-Elect of the World Energy Cities Partnership

Rio Negócios – What were your impressions of the WECP meeting in Rio de Janeiro?

Michael Savage – The meetings in Rio were well organized and executed with a variety of industry experts providing excellent information and focus. The meetings also allowed an opportunity for other cities to tour significant sites of cultural interest in the city as well as the infrastructure projects built or being built to support large scale events such as Rio Olympics and FIFA.

RN – How do you see the role of the WECP within the oil & gas industry in the coming years?

MS – Cities are more important than ever and in oil and gas cities we will have a major role and we want our cities to prosper and have as much benefit for all citizens. I believe WECP is even more important when oil prices are low as we can learn from each other how to maneuver in challenging economic times. As markets change for example, with the rise of renewables we can learn from each other how to adjust and take advantage.
