Christine Sagen Helgø is the Mayor of Stavanger, Norway, and WECP President

Rio Negócios – What are your expectations for the WECP meeting in Rio de Janeiro?

Christine Sagen Helgø – The WECP meeting in Rio de Janeiro gives an opportunity for the leadership of the world’s energy capitals to meet and discuss the challenges we are facing.  Declining oil prices and reduced activity in the oil sector have resulted in rising unemployment for many of the WECP cities. This situation forces us to discuss how we can continue our support for the energy sector and at the same facilitate knowledge and technology transfer from the sector to foster growth and innovation in other sectors of our societies.

RN – How do you see the role performed by WECP in the oil & gas industry?

CSH – WECP is an important networking arena. It represents an international meeting place for the political leadership of energy cities to meet and discuss the challenges as viewed by the oil & gas industry. Representing energy cities from all over the world, WECP is an important body to voice common challenges in our role as host cities for the industry.
