    The first sectorial conference of Casa Rio, on Life Sciences, will be on April 13 at Museu do Amanhã. In focus, the themes of Biotechnology and Clinical Trials.

    Among the panelists is Michael Rosen, specialist in the development of global business and life science clusters. Along with Rosen will be executives from multinational pharma and biotech companies, as well as researchers and authorities in charge of formulating public policies.

    The global biotech and clinical trial market is predicted to reach US$ 445 bilhões in sales by 2019, according to studies by JP Morgan. In Brazil, the sector is bolstered by the Science, Technology and Innovatio Legal Framework, which allows, among other new features, that tenured professors develop research within companies and that university laboratories can be used by the industry for the development of new technologies.

    Life Sciences as an economic vocation of Rio de Janeiro

    For Marcelo Haddad, president of Rio Negócios, Rio de Janeiro’s investment promotion agency, the Science Legal Framework and the tendency towards outsourcing research and clinical trials to emerging countries create na excelente scenario for attracting new projects to the city. Among the assets in Rio de Janeiro is the database of the social program Clínica da Família. Thanks to the new data transmission infrastructure in the city, it’s easier to consolidate and give access to three million digital medical charts of a population with a high degree of genetic diversity, na essential fator for clinical trials, making Rio de janeiro more attractive for companies conducting this type of activity.
