The National Park Service administered Millerton Lake as a (National) Recreation Area from May 22, 1945, to November 1, 1957, and then turned it over to the state of California, which now manages it as the Millerton Lake Home; California; Madera County; Reservoirs; Millerton Lake; Millerton Lake Reservoir . This is a terrific value for the area at $30/night for full hook-ups. We hike the many trails and encounter all kinds of birds and beasts. The 10k course is great for those looking to explore trail-running for the first time, it has minimal elevation change (hills) and stunning views from the single track trail.
