The German ticket sales company CTS Eventim will make in Brazil their first expansion beyond Europe. Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, CEO, said to the Financial Times that CTS Eventim – responsible for the ticket sales in the Sochi Winter Games, in Russia – will use the Rio Games as a platform to enter Latin America.

“Brazil is a major market. Household incomes are increasing and the Latin American market has a highly developed musical culture”, said Schulenberg.

Initially, the company’s physical presence will consist of 10 to 20 employees managing local operations in Brazil, with ticket sales technology continue to be operated from Germany. CTS Eventim’s Olympic ticketing contract will be used as an opportunity to adapt the company’s software for the wider Brazilian market, he explained. “[We’ll be] installing the Portuguese language, introducing the necessary payment methods.”

CTS Eventim has grown to become Europe’s biggest ticketing services group by market value, largely driven by a boom in concert ticket sales, as more artists turn to live performance to make up for the declining revenues from recorded music. Its business now combines ticket sales with the promotion of concerts, via stakes in major event promoters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
